Does anyone remember the name of the store upstairs which sold Dungeons and Dragons items?

Unfortunately I have no memory of the mall before Scotia was the last theatre. I do remember when there were flamingos in the middle of the mall, and I miss the arcade that was upstairs Dave's arcade or something like that. What I really miss is seeing the dragon blow fire, such good memories making a day trip just for that event!

Didn't know this mall even existed, not really a surprise, it closed long before i began to really explore the city. During Heritage Malls final years and closure, all childhood me knew of Edmonton was my home neighborhood in the north and the few places mom and grandma took me (like Northgate, Londonderry, and WEM) Most of south Edmonton was a mystery for me until the Captial LRT line got its south extension, long after Heritage Malls era. Thank you for making this mini documentary, i never would've known about Heritage mall otherwise.

Being escorted by someone 18 years old is whimpy. I worked in a store with that policy (not at the mall) and the 18 year olds were just as bad. A mall I frequented overseas really had a great idea. No unescorted kids during weekdays. (Different schools have different hours so they couldn't just say 'school hours'.)

I remember that dragon used to scare the shit out of me, so much so that i would rush mom getting our concessions so i wouldn't have to see it. I still did end up seeing it in action few times regardless. In retrospect, i'm glad i got to see it in action before it got removed, even if it did scare me.

Sad to see her go, but the mindbender has enjoyed a good and full life, suffering only a single accident. May she rest in piece. Also, an update to this video update, having been to west ed within the past few months, i can confirm that the mindbender is gone now. Nothing but empty space left. However, i did see some new supplies in the dome, so they are putting something new there.

Just another reason why things seem so lame and boring now for more money, just don’t get it civilization used to be more willing to take risks and come out with the neatest architectural ideas. now we’re just getting boring stripped down versions of things that were once cool, a lot of places you go to now aren’t about making customers satisfied it’s strictly to get money from you. It’s why I don’t go out as often and it’s saved my sanity. The last time I actually paid to be in water park was 10-12 years ago

It's likely this new policy is really only enforced with the under 10 crowd, to be fair, kids under 10 years shouldn't be wandering unsupervised anyway, its dangerous, for multiple reasons. Before anyone jumps down my throat, let me stress that i am specifically talking about kiddos UNDER 10, so 9 years and younger. Teens i trust to be more responsible, and even if they aren't, well, thats what the policy is for.

The law for WEM is 16 years old and under must be accompanied by a person 18+.

Ok I thought I was crazy for thinking there where 2 theatres in the mall when I was a kid in the early 00’s but now I know I was indeed not.

How did mall of america even come close? Not just that edmonton has north Americas biggest indoor waterpark but that it is part of the mall! WEM wins by a landslide

The only two theatres i remember at west ed were West Mall 8 and of course Silver City (or Scotiabank theatre as its now known.) I wasn't aware of the others, but thats of course because they all came before my time and/or closed before my first visit to the mall. I remember the silver city dragon used to scare the shit out of me (i was a little tyke at the time), kinda ironic as now i love dragons, they are by far my favorite mythical creatures.

As a west ender, this is the stuff of local mythology. I eventually heard of the place, but by that time it was long since closed. Yet one more of our great malls tasting the steel of the wrecking ball.

I'm from Sherwood Park and I remember my family and I used to go to the Whitemud Amusement park every odd weekend in the summer time back in the 90's among many other activities in Edmonton. Truly is a shame that it no longer exists due to the LRT expansion.

Fast-forward to 2024, and WEM is really starting to show its age...and lack of investment in the entertainment aspect of the mall. WEM keeps losing more & more of what made it attractive/unique, with these attractions being replaced with more and more retail space.

I know this is gonna sound weird but how exactly did the 4 passengers die? Like I know they flew out of the car but i'm pretty curious about what exactly happened to them after that

I didn't know that the whale used to be in water. Too bad they didn't do that in the new location. Probably lower maintenance cost this way.

The fountains may have looked nice, but they were too noisy, in my opinion. Don't mind the new food court, except for the movable plastic chairs, which are terrible.

I remember that book. When I first moved to the city in Gr 6 and was attending Duggan Elementary. We had time to choose a book from the library. That one was my first book I pulled out and read.
